Sharing a session

Sessions are private by default. Nothing leaves your account until you press Share and confirm.

Send someone a session

1. Open the session on app.yanl.net .
2. Press Share in the top bar.
3. Check the settings in the dialog, then press Copy link.
4. Paste the link to whoever needs it.

The link is view-only. Whoever opens it can look at the replay, the charts and the map, but cannot delete the session, rename it, change how long it is kept, or share it from your account.

Share only part of a session

If only one stretch of the recording matters, open the clip bar (the scissors button next to the timeline), drag the handles to the range you want, and press Share clip. The recipient lands on exactly that range.

You do not have to trim first. With no trim set, the same button shares the whole session.

What the dialog is telling you

Anyone who has the link can open it, inside or outside your organisation. A share link works without signing in. That is what makes it easy to send to a colleague, and it is also why the link deserves the same care as the session itself. Send it to the people who need it, and no further.

Hide precise location and Wi-Fi names is switched on by default. With it on, the recipient sees:

• GPS positions rounded to roughly 110 metres, so the route still makes sense but does not pin down an address; and
• Wi-Fi network names and hardware identifiers (SSID, BSSID and MAC addresses) masked.

You always see your own session in full. Untick the box when you are sending the session to someone who genuinely needs the precise data, such as an engineer investigating a specific site.

The link stops working when the session does. A share link has no separate expiry. It dies with the session it points at: seven days after upload for uploads made without an account, or on the expiry date shown for a saved session.

Ending access

Deleting the session immediately breaks every link to it, and that is how you end access to something you have shared. There is no control for switching off one link while keeping the session, so if a link needs to stop working sooner than the session expires, delete the session it points at.

The link your phone gives you is different

After an upload, the Android app offers a View on Web link. That link carries your own access code, so it opens the session in full, with nothing hidden. It is meant for getting your own recording onto a bigger screen.

If you forward it, the recipient sees everything you see, including precise locations and Wi-Fi names. To send a session to someone else, open it on the web and use Share instead.

Someone sent me a link and it says the session is private

The web address on its own does not grant access. Everything after the # in a session link is what opens it, and copying an address from the browser bar often leaves that part behind. It is also possible the sender copied the address while signed in, in which case the address never carried access at all.

Ask the sender to press Share in their session view and send you the link that produces.

If the session is your own and you are on a different device, sign in with the account that saved it and it will open from your session list.
