Terms of Service
Effective 10 July 2026
These terms are a legal agreement between you and Flying River Ltd, whose registered office is at 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom.
Flying River Ltd owns and operates YANL (“YANL”, “we”, “us” and “our”). These terms apply to the YANL Android application and the yanl.net web platform, together referred to as the “Service”.
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
Early access. YANL is currently in private beta. Features, limits, functionality and availability may change while we develop the Service. The Service may contain errors, incomplete features or experimental functionality.
1. Who may use YANL
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, upload a recording or use the Service.
During private beta, accounts may be granted by invitation.
If you use YANL on behalf of a company, public body or other organisation, you confirm that:
- you have authority to accept these terms on its behalf;
- the organisation is responsible for your use of the Service;
- you have all organisational approvals and permissions required for the tests and uploads you perform; and
- the organisation will ensure that its users and administrators comply with these terms.
We may require organisations, commercial users or users of particular features to accept separate business, service or data-processing terms.
2. Network testing and authorisation
YANL is a network diagnostic tool. You are solely responsible for deciding whether and how to use it and for ensuring that every test is lawful and authorised.
You may use YANL:
- on a network or device that you own;
- on a network or device where the owner or operator has expressly authorised the type and scope of testing you perform; or
- to observe and diagnose the ordinary connectivity and performance made available to your own device while you are legitimately connected to a network.
Being able to connect to, reach, detect or receive signals from a network, device, address, service or system does not by itself give you permission to test it.
When using a public, shared, workplace, hospitality, residential or other third-party network, you may diagnose the connection and performance experienced by your own device. You must not scan, probe, intercept, access, disrupt or attempt to assess other devices, users, communications or infrastructure unless you have the network operator’s express permission to do so.
You must not use YANL:
- beyond the scope of any permission you have received;
- to intercept, monitor or record another person’s communications or activity without lawful authority;
- to obtain credentials, message content or other information not intended for you;
- to identify, test or exploit vulnerabilities in third-party systems;
- to evade access controls, usage restrictions or security protections;
- for covert monitoring of employees, customers, tenants, guests, household members or other people;
- to interfere with a network, device, system or service;
- in connection with unlawful surveillance, interception or computer access; or
- in breach of any applicable computer-misuse, telecommunications, interception, privacy, data-protection or other law.
Before beginning a test, you must obtain every permission required for that test.
We may ask you to provide reasonable evidence that a test was authorised where we investigate suspected misuse.
You are responsible for the configuration, scope and targets of tests you initiate and for your interpretation and use of the results.
3. Network, device and data usage
Network tests, uploads, maps and other online functions may:
- consume mobile data or internet bandwidth;
- use battery power and device resources;
- temporarily affect other activity on the tested connection;
- generate substantial data usage, particularly during speed or throughput tests; and
- result in charges from your mobile, internet or roaming provider.
You are responsible for checking your tariff, network restrictions and available data allowance before running a test.
You must select appropriate test settings and avoid tests that could cause unwanted charges, service disruption or excessive use of shared network resources.
4. Your account
Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider, as explained in the Privacy Policy.
You must:
- provide accurate account information where requested;
- keep your account and authentication credentials secure;
- not allow another person to use your account unless the Service expressly supports that use;
- not sell, transfer or share access to your account; and
- tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed or used without permission.
You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless that activity resulted directly from our failure to use reasonable security measures.
Contact us at team@yanl.net if you believe your account has been compromised.
5. Organisation accounts and administrators
If your account is managed by an organisation, its authorised administrators may be able to:
- add, suspend or remove users;
- manage subscriptions and plan settings;
- configure organisation or workspace settings;
- view, manage, export or delete sessions associated with the organisation;
- control retention settings;
- manage sharing permissions; and
- access information about activity within the organisation account.
The organisation is responsible for appointing appropriate administrators and managing their authority.
You should not place personal information in an organisation workspace if you do not want the organisation or its administrators to control or access it.
Where you use YANL for an organisation, that use is business use (see section 10) and requires the appropriate commercial arrangement with us. It is in any event limited to the organisation’s own internal diagnostic purposes and does not include:
- providing YANL-based testing, monitoring or analysis to customers;
- including YANL functionality in a managed service;
- reselling access or results;
- operating a bureau or consultancy service using YANL;
- incorporating YANL into another commercial product; or
- making YANL reports or outputs available as part of a paid third-party service.
6. Acceptable use
You must not:
- use the Service unlawfully or in a way that infringes another person’s rights;
- upload unlawful, infringing, malicious or misleading content;
- disrupt, damage, overload or impair the Service or its infrastructure;
- introduce malware, harmful code or deliberately malformed data;
- gain or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, another account or any related infrastructure;
- circumvent usage limits, fair-use controls, access controls or security measures;
- conceal or misrepresent the origin of requests;
- scrape, harvest or systematically extract information from the Service;
- use bots, scripts or automated tools except where we expressly permit them;
- resell, sublicense or provide the Service to third parties, except through functionality expressly designed for that purpose;
- remove or obscure legal, copyright, trade mark or proprietary notices;
- copy, reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble or create derivative works from the Service, except to the limited extent that applicable law expressly permits the activity and does not allow that permission to be excluded by contract; or
- help another person do any of the above.
We may investigate suspected misuse and may restrict, suspend or terminate access, remove or quarantine content, block requests or preserve relevant evidence where reasonably necessary to protect users, the Service, our providers or our legal rights.
7. Your content and data
7.1 Your Content
“Your Content” means measurements, recordings, log files, notes and other information that you submit to or create using the Service.
As between you and us, you retain any rights you have in Your Content. These terms do not transfer ownership of Your Content to us.
You instruct and authorise us, and service providers acting on our behalf, to host, copy, transmit, process, analyse, format and display Your Content to the extent reasonably necessary to:
- provide, operate and secure the Service;
- carry out actions that you request;
- parse and display recordings;
- generate session summaries and diagnostic outputs;
- provide support and investigate technical problems;
- detect, prevent and investigate fraud, misuse and security incidents;
- comply with applicable law and enforce these terms; and
- maintain and improve the reliability, security and performance of the Service.
This authorisation continues for as long as we hold Your Content, including any limited backup, retention or deletion period described in the Privacy Policy.
7.2 Information that must not be uploaded
The Service is a network diagnostic tool. It is not designed to store or protect trade secrets, security credentials or information whose loss, alteration or disclosure could cause substantial financial, commercial, operational or personal harm.
You must not upload or otherwise provide to the Service:
- passwords, authentication tokens, private encryption keys or other security credentials;
- payment-card information, bank-account details or financial access information;
- trade secrets, source code or other materially commercially sensitive information;
- information subject to a legal, professional, regulatory or contractual confidentiality obligation that does not permit processing through the Service;
- classified information;
- information relating to critical infrastructure where disclosure could create a security risk;
- special-category personal data, criminal-offence data or highly sensitive personal information, unless we expressly agree in writing that the Service supports that use; or
- any information whose disclosure, alteration or loss could reasonably be expected to cause material harm.
You must review recordings and files before uploading them and remove, redact or obscure information that is not reasonably necessary for the diagnostic purpose.
The fact that the Service technically permits information to be uploaded does not mean that the Service is suitable or approved for storing that information.
7.3 Your responsibilities for Your Content
You are responsible for Your Content and for deciding whether it is suitable for submission to the Service.
You confirm that:
- you have all rights, permissions and lawful bases needed for us to process Your Content as described in these terms and the Privacy Policy;
- Your Content and its processing will not infringe another person’s rights or breach applicable law;
- you have provided any legally required notices to people whose personal data may be included;
- you have obtained any legally required consents or permissions;
- you have not relied on the Service as the sole storage location for information you need to retain; and
- you will not upload information prohibited by these terms.
We may reject, quarantine, restrict access to or delete Your Content where we reasonably believe that it breaches these terms, presents a security risk or could expose us or another person to legal or regulatory liability.
7.4 Personal data
Where Your Content includes personal data, we process that personal data as described in the Privacy Policy and in accordance with applicable data-protection law.
Where we process personal data on behalf of an organisation as its processor, our applicable Data Processing Addendum forms part of the agreement.
An organisation must not upload personal data for which we would act as its processor until any required Data Processing Addendum has been accepted.
7.5 No sale or advertising use
We do not sell Your Content, license it to mobile operators or data brokers, or use it to target advertising.
We will not use the contents of private recordings to train a general-purpose artificial-intelligence model unless we introduce a separate, clearly explained opt-in arrangement.
7.6 Local files and backups
You are responsible for retaining copies of recordings, reports and other information you require.
Unless a paid plan expressly states otherwise, the Service is not a backup, archive, records-management or disaster-recovery service.
8. Use of YANL technology, infrastructure and outputs
We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to use the Service in accordance with these terms and for its intended diagnostic purpose.
Except where we expressly permit it in writing, you must not use any part of the YANL system as a component of, or in combination with, another application, service, platform, automated process or commercial offering.
You must not connect to a YANL test server, endpoint or other YANL infrastructure, or send traffic to or receive traffic from it, using anything other than the current YANL app or web platform as we provide it; in particular, and without limiting the prohibition just stated, you must not point any speed-test, iperf, benchmarking, load-testing or other network tool (whether third-party, general-purpose or one you built yourself) at YANL infrastructure, or use, or cause or permit anyone else to use, a YANL test server as a target, source, relay or endpoint, for any purpose we have not expressly enabled in the Service.
In particular, you must not:
- connect to, call, query or use a YANL test server, endpoint, API, processing service or other infrastructure other than through the YANL app or web platform in the manner we provide;
- cause another application, script, device or service to initiate tests against, submit data to or retrieve results from YANL infrastructure;
- use YANL test servers or capabilities to test, support, benchmark, monitor or provide functionality for another product or service;
- extract, scrape, harvest or systematically download results, metadata or other information from the Service;
- use YANL-generated reports, summaries, scores, annotations, derived measurements, enriched data or other processed outputs as an input to another product, automated system or post-processing service;
- modify, translate, convert, decode or post-process YANL-specific files or outputs for use with another system;
- reproduce or emulate YANL protocols, workflows, test methods, server behaviour or output structures;
- use YANL outputs to develop, train, benchmark or improve another product, model or service;
- build or assist in building a product or service that substitutes for, competes with or replicates a material part of the Service; or
- make YANL functionality or outputs available as part of a managed service, consultancy, bureau service, data service or other commercial offering.
These restrictions apply whether the activity is performed manually or using software, scripts, bots, artificial-intelligence systems or other automated means.
8.1 Your original raw data
The restrictions above do not prevent you from retaining, reviewing or processing raw measurements and recordings that:
- originate from your own device or network;
- are stored locally in an open format independently of the Service; and
- do not contain YANL software, confidential information, proprietary enrichment or access credentials.
You must not represent another system’s analysis as having been produced, verified, endorsed or supported by YANL.
Where a file contains both your original data and information generated or added by YANL, you may use your original raw data, but you must not extract or reuse YANL-generated information except as the Service expressly permits.
8.2 YANL-Generated Information
“YANL-Generated Information” means any result, summary, score, classification, annotation, correlation, derived measurement, report, visualisation, metadata or other information generated, calculated, added or materially structured by the Service.
It does not include raw measurements or content supplied directly from your device without material processing by YANL.
You must not, without our prior written consent, submit YANL-Generated Information to another automated processing system or use it to provide, develop, train, benchmark or improve another product or service.
8.3 Approved integrations
We may provide approved export functions, APIs, integrations or written permissions for specified uses.
Any approved use is subject to the documentation, technical limits and additional terms we provide.
The existence of an export function, downloadable file or technically accessible endpoint does not by itself grant permission to use YANL infrastructure or proprietary outputs beyond the purpose expressly described in the Service.
8.4 Protecting the Service
You must not disclose access credentials, tokens, endpoint details, non-public documentation or other information that could enable unauthorised access to YANL infrastructure.
We may block requests, rotate credentials, impose technical limits, suspend access or take other reasonable measures where we believe YANL infrastructure or outputs are being accessed or used contrary to these terms.
9. Sharing sessions and links
Sessions are private by default. The Service lets the owner of a session create a view-only share link for the whole session or for a trimmed range of it.
Share links are bearer links. This means that anyone who obtains the relevant link, token or access code may be able to access the associated session without signing in.
You are responsible for:
- reviewing a session before sharing it;
- ensuring that you have permission to share its contents;
- removing confidential, sensitive or unnecessary information;
- protecting the link, token or access code;
- sharing it only with intended recipients; and
- deleting the underlying session when the link is no longer required.
Share links must not be used to distribute information prohibited under section 7.2.
We do not guarantee that a recipient will keep a shared session confidential or refrain from copying it.
Where you deliberately create or enable a shared link, you instruct us to make the relevant content available to people who use that link until the underlying session expires or is deleted.
10. Plans, fees and early access
We may offer use without an account, free plans, trials or promotional access.
We may introduce, change or withdraw free functionality or plans at any time, subject to applicable law.
Current plan features, usage limits, retention periods and prices are shown on the Pricing page or in your account.
Paid plans may be processed through a third-party payment provider. Additional payment-provider terms may apply.
Unless stated otherwise before purchase:
- fees are payable in advance;
- subscriptions may renew automatically for successive billing periods;
- you may cancel through your account before the next renewal date; and
- cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period.
We will give reasonable notice of a material change that adversely affects a paid plan you hold.
Because YANL is in early access, the Service may be interrupted, unavailable, changed or withdrawn. We do not offer a service-level guarantee unless we expressly agree one in writing.
Individual and business use. The standard plans (including any free plan and trials) are licensed for individual use: your own diagnostic work, evaluation, learning and professional tasks. You are welcome to use YANL for your own work, including work you carry out for an employer or a client, under a standard plan.
Business use means using YANL as part of an organisation’s operations or service delivery, including its customer-care, support, service-assurance, field, network-operations or other business processes; use across a team or through shared or organisational accounts; or reliance on YANL to deliver, support or inform services the organisation provides to others. Business use is not granted by the standard or free plans and requires a separate commercial or enterprise agreement with us.
Where individuals use YANL for the benefit of, or on behalf of, an organisation as part of that organisation’s business use, the organisation is responsible for ensuring that an appropriate commercial agreement is in place, and is bound by these terms in respect of that use. We may require any organisation whose personnel make business use of YANL to enter a commercial agreement, and continued business use without one is a breach of these terms.
If you would like to use YANL across a team, or as part of your organisation’s operations or customer-care processes, contact us at team@yanl.net about a business plan.
11. Beta and experimental features
We may label features as beta, preview, experimental or early access.
Such features may:
- be incomplete or inaccurate;
- change without notice;
- be subject to separate limits;
- have reduced support;
- be unavailable temporarily or permanently;
- lose stored settings or data when changed or discontinued; or
- never become generally available.
We may suspend, limit, reset or discontinue a beta feature where reasonably necessary to control cost, capacity, security, technical risk or misuse.
You must not use a beta or experimental feature for safety-critical, regulatory, production-critical or high-value purposes.
12. Intellectual property
The Service, including its software, application, website, design, branding, documentation, processing methods, templates, output structures and the YANL name and logo, is owned by or licensed to Flying River Ltd and protected by intellectual-property law.
We own the Service and the software, methods, templates, visual presentation and technology used to generate YANL-Generated Information.
This does not give us ownership of your underlying raw measurements, pre-existing content or other material that belongs to you.
These terms do not transfer any of our intellectual-property rights to you.
YANL may contain third-party and open-source components provided under their own licences.
13. Feedback
If you provide comments, suggestions, ideas, bug reports or other feedback about the Service, you allow us to use that feedback without restriction or payment to you.
This does not transfer ownership of Your Content to us.
You must not provide feedback that you are not entitled to disclose.
14. Third-party services
The Service may depend on or interact with third-party services, networks, devices, software or content.
We do not control third-party services and are not responsible for their availability, accuracy, security or performance.
Your use of a third-party service may be governed by separate terms and privacy information.
15. Artificial-intelligence and automated outputs
Where the Service offers features using artificial intelligence, machine learning or other automated methods, outputs may be incomplete, incorrect, misleading or unsuitable for your circumstances.
Such outputs may be generated probabilistically and may vary when similar information is processed more than once.
You must review automated outputs and verify important findings independently before relying on them.
You must not use automated outputs as the sole basis for a safety-critical, legal, regulatory, employment, financial or other significant decision.
16. Service limitations and disclaimers
YANL is an early-access diagnostic aid.
It is not:
- a managed network service;
- a security audit;
- a penetration-testing service;
- a continuous monitoring service;
- a backup or archive;
- an emergency service; or
- a substitute for professional technical, legal, regulatory or security advice.
You must not rely on the Service:
- as the sole basis for a security, safety, operational, legal, regulatory or commercial decision;
- to identify every network problem, security issue, interruption or unauthorised device;
- where an error, delay, interruption or loss of data could cause death, personal injury, significant property damage, substantial financial loss or serious operational disruption;
- for emergency communications;
- for critical infrastructure;
- for medical, transport, industrial-control or other safety-critical systems; or
- for any purpose for which the Service is not expressly designed.
Results may be incomplete, delayed, inaccurate or affected by your device, its hardware, Android, permissions, network conditions, third-party systems or matters outside our reasonable control.
You are responsible for independently verifying results before acting on them.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, completely secure, compatible with every device or network, or suitable for a particular purpose.
Nothing in these terms affects statutory rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
17. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for:
- death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
- fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or
- any obligation or right that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Subject to those exceptions, we are not responsible for:
- loss or damage that was not a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or failure to use reasonable care and skill;
- loss arising from inaccurate, incomplete, delayed or unavailable diagnostic results;
- any decision or action taken in reliance on the Service without independent verification;
- loss, corruption, disclosure or unavailability of information that these terms prohibit you from uploading;
- loss that could reasonably have been avoided by following our instructions, reviewing files before upload, maintaining an independent backup or taking reasonable security precautions;
- the acts, omissions, networks, devices, software, products or services of third parties;
- loss caused by your unlawful, unauthorised or improper use of the Service;
- loss caused by use of the Service outside its intended purpose;
- charges imposed by your network, mobile, internet or roaming provider;
- disclosure resulting from your sharing of a link, token, code or session;
- loss resulting from the suspension, modification or discontinuation of a beta feature; or
- loss resulting from events outside our reasonable control.
If you use the Service wholly or mainly for business, trade, professional or organisational purposes, we are not responsible for:
- loss of profit, revenue or anticipated savings;
- loss of business, contracts or opportunity;
- business interruption;
- loss of goodwill or reputation;
- loss or corruption of data; or
- indirect or consequential loss.
Unless applicable law requires otherwise, our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with the Service, whether in contract, tort, negligence, breach of statutory duty or otherwise, will not exceed:
- for a user who has not paid for the Service, £50; or
- for a paying user, the greater of £100 and the fees paid by that user for the affected Service during the six months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
The exclusions and limits in this section apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.
18. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Service at any time.
You may delete your account through Settings → Delete account, subject to the account-deletion process described in the Privacy Policy.
We may suspend, restrict or terminate your access where:
- you breach these terms;
- we reasonably suspect fraud, abuse, unlawful activity or a security threat;
- payment is overdue;
- your use creates risk or liability for us, our providers or another person;
- we are required to do so by law or a competent authority; or
- we discontinue the Service.
Where reasonably possible, we will give notice before terminating an account for reasons unrelated to misuse, security or legal requirements.
On termination:
- your right to use the Service ends;
- hosted data will be deleted or allowed to expire in accordance with the Privacy Policy;
- limited records may be retained where required for legal compliance, security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution or enforcement; and
- provisions intended to continue after termination will remain in effect.
19. Dormant accounts
We may close a free account that has been inactive for an extended period.
Before doing so, we will take reasonable steps to notify the account holder and provide an opportunity to sign in, save permitted information or prevent closure.
The applicable inactivity period and any notice period will be stated in the Service before dormant-account deletion is introduced.
20. Changes to the Service
We may add, change, suspend or remove features where reasonably necessary to:
- develop or improve the Service;
- address security or technical issues;
- comply with law;
- respond to changes in third-party services;
- prevent misuse; or
- change our business operations.
During beta, changes may be frequent and may materially affect functionality.
Where a change materially reduces a paid feature during a current paid period, we will take reasonable steps to give advance notice or provide an appropriate remedy where required by law.
21. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms where reasonably necessary to reflect changes to:
- the Service;
- law or regulation;
- security requirements;
- third-party services;
- our business operations; or
- the way we offer plans and subscriptions.
We will post the updated terms with a revised effective date.
We will give reasonable advance notice of a material change that adversely affects you. If you do not agree to such a change, you may stop using the Service and cancel an affected paid subscription before the change takes effect.
Continuing to use the Service after an updated version takes effect means that you agree to the updated terms, except where applicable law requires another form of agreement.
22. Additional terms
Certain plans, organisation accounts, test services, APIs, integrations, beta features or other functionality may be subject to additional terms.
Where additional terms conflict with these terms, the additional terms apply to the relevant feature, plan or service to the extent of the conflict.
23. Communications
We may send you service, security, billing and legal notices electronically, including by email, through your account or within the Service.
You are responsible for keeping your contact details up to date.
Marketing communications will be handled separately and may be opted out of as described in the communication.
24. App stores
If you obtain the app through an app store, the app store’s terms may also apply.
These terms are between you and Flying River Ltd, not the app-store operator.
Where required by the app-store rules, the app-store operator may have rights as a third-party beneficiary of provisions relating to the application.
25. Events outside our control
We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by events outside our reasonable control, including internet or telecommunications failures, power outages, cloud-provider failures, cyberattacks, industrial disputes, natural disasters, governmental action or failures of third-party networks or services.
26. Assignment
You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these terms without our prior written consent.
We may assign or transfer our rights and obligations as part of a restructuring, financing, sale of business, transfer of assets or similar transaction, provided that doing so does not reduce any mandatory rights you have under applicable law.
27. General terms
These terms and the Privacy Policy form the agreement between you and us concerning the Service, together with any additional terms expressly accepted for a particular plan or feature.
If any provision is found unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect.
A delay or failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of that provision.
Except where these terms expressly state otherwise, a person who is not a party to these terms has no right to enforce them.
Headings are for convenience only and do not affect interpretation.
28. Governing law and courts
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer, you may also have the benefit of mandatory legal rights and may be entitled to bring proceedings in the country where you live.
